实用英语 - 融入和谐社会 Beginners' English for Community Harmony
The “Beginners' English for Community Harmony” course aims to provide a platform for the Singaporeans and new immigrants to come together and learn English at a basic level. This course is designed for learners to learn about employment- related English. Cultural and custom appreciation will be incorporated into the course as well. Classes will be conducted in an interactive manner, using interactive activities, conversations and role-plays to encourage interaction between the participants. There will be opportunities to learn about different cultures, customs and lifestyles among the course participants.
Self introduction
Understanding workplace and community environment
Office Routines.
Learn to describe one’s company or profession (company location, products and global businesses)
Effective conversation with clients and customers
Cultural differences between Singapore and China
Brief understanding of Singapore’s and China’s histories
Responding to customer’s request & understanding customers
Various festivals and ethnic holidays in Singapore

Course Fee (After subsidy from MCYS): S$100 + GST
We recommend students who have completed Beginners' English for Community Harmony to further their English learning with our Certificate in Business English.

我爱新加坡 - 我的家园 I Love Singapore - My Homeplace
SCCIOB designed a two-day course about Singapore in accordance with the Singapore Government's plans to promote and foster social integration among Singaporeans, new Singapore Citizens, Permanent Residents and expatriates. Through classroom lectures and learning journeys to various local landmarks as well as facilities within towns, this programme aims to let participants gain a more thorough understanding about Singapore's history, economy, society, and the various ways which new immigrants can utilize to approach the goverment for aid if the need arises.
This course is subsidised by the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports.

Roles, Functions and Operations by key government organisations and agencies, especially those of relevance to new citizens
Mechanism to resolve economic problems and promote national policy and social harmony
Channels of communication / source of help and support from government and civic organisations like Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry
PM Session: Learning Journey
Visiting URA Gallery and Marina Barrage: Laern about how Singapore makes effective use of its limited resources
Journey through Shenton Way and Civic District
Take a trip down the Singapore River
AM Session: Classroom Lecture
Singapore's Principle of Governance and shared values
Structure and Roles of Singapore Community and Grassroots organisation
Approaches to Community Development - A Community-based Many Helping Hands Approach
Public Housing in Singapore
Fostering social integration and harmony in Singapore
PM Session: Learning Journey
Visit a typical satellite town - Toa Payoh - and learn about the various amenities available e.g. Community Library, Community Centre, Town Centre, Schools etc.
Take a look at the various places of worship: Lian Shan Shuang Lin Monastery, Masjid Muhajirin, Toa Payoh Methodist Church
Visit Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Association, Islamic Religious Council of Singapore
Visit Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall, CPF Bishan Service Centre
