Singapore Chinese Chamber Institute of Business Annual Report 2019
In 2019, with the global market undergoing upheavals, SCCIOB has looked to broaden its curriculum to tackle the changing needs of the labour market through the development of new training programmes
We have also refined and upgraded our core programmes to align the content to diversifying training needs as well as to bring an element of fun along with efficiency to hone the industry-relevant skills that our learners need to be competent in the current era.
New professional programmes to cover more industries
The WSQ Professional Diploma in Leadership and People Management programme continues to be well received, with a record of 560 learners receiving their diploma this year. IOB continues to expand its WSQ repertoire with the launch of the WSQ Diploma in Tourism (Events Management and Operations) in order to target a wider range of learners and broaden the field of expertise as well as the upcoming launch of the WSQ Diploma in Retail (Retail Operations) for the retail industry.
The China-Ready Programme continues to be a mainstay in our offerings and we have included a new skillset to aid businesses and marketing professionals in developing content for the Chinese social media ecosystem. The Compelling Chinese Copywriting for Social Media programme will teach learners how to achieve results in Chinese social media marketing. SkillsFuture Singapore has already approved funding with up to 95% support for Singaporeans and Permanent Residents.
The SkillsFuture for Digital Workplace (SFDW) programme was developed to help learners pick up the use of digital tools, software and applications at home and at the workplace. Through a hands-on programme using tablet computers, learners are able to quickly learn digital technology skills. IOB also introduced the SFDW Executive programme which also covers advanced digital tech such as drones and VR (virtual reality). As of November 2019, over 1,400 learners have participated in the programme.
We have also launched four new Industry 4.0 programmes together with Ngee Ann Polytechnic to help businesses prepare for the future economy. These programmes with help industry practitioners learn to use advanced technologies (such as AI, Blockchain, etc) and leverage platforms to stand out from the competition.
Core courses have been refined and updated
Apart from developing new programmes, our academic team has looked back to refresh and incorporate timely updates to our core offerings. Since the launch of the China-Ready Programme in 2018, response has been encouraging for our public-run as well as corporate programmes. We have brought China-Ready Programme to the heartlands, through working with the Northeast Community Development Council to provide their residents with an opportunity to upgrade their skills and we have also fine-tuned and customized our training to provide specialised classes for our corporate clients.
Enrolments for the Diploma in Translation and Interpretation have surged in recent years and we have thus raised the language proficiency and requirements for applicants. We have also revised and upgraded the six diploma modules to include the latest industry skills and knowledge as well as making the programme more interactive and engaging to ensure learners are equipped with the right skills for increasingly complex translation & interpretation work.
The Certificate in International Business Mandarin has remained a mainstay of SCCIOB’s programmes and continues to grow in popularity. This year, the academic department has developed an electronic placement test to assess the learning needs of a learner and their appropriate course level. E-learning and activities have also been added to the curriculum to help learners learn effectively in and out of the classroom including online flash cards, self-tests and other applications.
The SCCIOB website is also on course for a fresh new look come 2020. With easier access to programme information in an easy-to-read format, users will have the information they need at their fingertips.
In our current fast-changing economic environment, SCCIOB stands firmly among the leaders of Singapore’s training industry. With our success in 2019, the institute looks forward to achieving more in the future while providing the right support to the industry in Singapore.
