Elementary Chinese for Business

Elementary Chinese for Business (Level I-IV) is a course for anyone who is able to converse in some basic Chinese and would like to learn Chinese characters, reading and writing together with phonetics fundation in a systematical and comprehensive way and start to learn some basic business Chinese terms in workplaces. 

Module Content

ELEMENTARY CHINESE FOR BUSINESS (LV I)  ELEMENTARY CHINESE FOR BUSINESS (LV II)

Developing your Business Chinese skills begins with the basics, learning and understanding Chinese Hanyu Pinyin and common strokes of Chinese characters.

Learners will then be taught on how to interact in a professional manner through professional greetings, self-introductions as well as basic etiquette when exchanging business cards.

This will build the basic foundation for those looking to communicate in a professional manner in business settings.

Further your understanding of Business Chinese as you learn about Chinese compound sentences and conjunctions.

Expand your conversational ability in a professional setting by being able to arrange your business schedule, make appointments, exchange contact information, negotiate pricing as well as respecting Chinese ettiquette in a social setting.

Learners will be able to take a step up in their interaction skills in order to express themselves in a professional manner.

ELEMENTARY CHINESE FOR BUSINESS (LV III)  ELEMENTARY CHINESE FOR BUSINESS (LV IV)

Expand your Chinese vocabulary as you learn more description terminology for interacting with others in a business setting. 

Learners will be able to conduct themselves in a professional manner at business events such as an expo and introduce themselves and their organisation in a clear and succint manner to impress their Chinese counterparts.

Be able to converse in Chinese when it comes to providing insights and evaluations for business.

Be able to interact effectively in Chinese in tackling business related topics such as discussing work schedules, preparing a job hunt or managing personal banking tasks.

Learn how to self-manage yourself in a Chinese environment with tasks such as renting accomodation, responding to conversations in SMSes, office memos or written notes.

Understand how conversations should be conducted in Chinese when dealing with clients and their needs.

Methodology

This course adopts imported textbooks, published by reputable universities in China, specially designed for overseas Chinese learners; with additional Business Chinese components solely developed by SCCIOB. Lessons are conducted in a structured yet pragmatic manner as lectures are blended with pair work, group discussions, role-plays and presentations etc. 

Learning Outcomes

Elementary Chinese for Business (Level I-IV)

•    Build a solid fundation on phonetics and Chinese character writing
•    Enhance knowledge and skills in listening, speaking, reading & writing
•    Start to understand and learn business Chinese terms through workplace scenarios
•    Apply basic knowledge of grammar, vocabulary and sentence patterns with at least 500 phrases 

Target Participants:

Those who are keen on picking up the Chinese language for use in a everyday and/or business setting.

 

Medium of Instruction:

Mandarin

Total Training Hours (per level): 36 hours (3 hours x 12 sessions)

Min. Chinese Proficiency of Applicant:

Placement Test - Participants are required to sit for a placement test which is used to evaluate their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Based on the test results, participants will be placed at a level that matches their proficiency.

The placement test can be taken on Wednesdays, 2.00pm to 4.15pm (online) & Saturdays, 9.00am to 12:00pm (in-person).

For Lv III: Completed Elementary Chinese for Business II
For Lv IV: Completed Elementary Chinese for Business III

Assessment and Certification

For each level, there is an assessment during the second last session. The assessment includes a 1-hour test assessing the participants' reading and writing skills.

Participants who pass the assessment will be awarded a Certificate of Proficiency from SCCIOB
