Tour Leading Operations

Methodology

Lessons are conducted in a structured yet pragmatic manner as lectures are blended with e-learning. An on-site field trip will also be conducted during the programme which will involve role-play in order to help the practice and application of concepts and approaches learned through the course. 

Learning Outcomes

  • Confirm tour details in advance, obtain appropriate information and material based on confirmed tour details, perform selection of appropriate location to deliver tour commentary, perform review of tour commentary, and test operation of equipment before conduct of tour
  • Review itinerary and schedule with visitors, perform adherence to schedule and itinerary based confirmed tour requirements, manage adjustments and changes to itinerary, and manage major deviations or changes to itinerary
  • Greet visitors, adopt effective communication techniques to engage visitors, respect protocol when addressing cultural differences and/or special needs, and deliver tour commentary using storytelling approach
  • Use appropriate ways to conclude tour, leave visitors with positive impression of tour, and per-form reporting end of tour
  • Identify conflicts, difficulties and unexpected sit-uations, resolve conflicts and difficulties using appropriate mitigating techniques, and take appropriate action in responding to accidents and emergency

Target Participants:

Learners are assumed to have basic knowledge of tourism industry and organizational product and services.

This module is designed primarily for the training of individuals who aspire to become licensed Tourist Guides (TG).

It may also be relevant for the training of personnel who are required to conduct tour in the course of their work including: - Attraction Host - Concierge - Customer Service Executive - Event Host - Inbound Tour Co-ordinator - Outbound Tour Co-ordinator - Marketing Executive - Passenger Service Executive - Premium Lounge Executive - Sales Executive - Ticketing Agent - Tour Co-ordinator - Visitor Guide/Tour Leader - Tram/Cruise/Bus Driver - Visitor Centre Executive

Medium of Instruction:

English

Total Training Hours: 
107.5 hours inclusive of:
Classroom training (18 hrs)
Practical training (72 hrs)
e-learning (16 hrs)
Assessment (1.5 hrs) 

Participants should ideally also be:

  • Age 21 years or above
  • Medically fit
  • Possess a secondary education (GCE ‘O’ level or equivalent) with the following language proficiency:
    - GCE ‘O’ Level Certificate with a minimum Grade B4 in English; or
    - WSQ WPL Level 6 in English language
  • Basic computer skills

Assessment and Certification

Participants who achieve 75% attendance and pass the end-of-course assessment will be awarded the Statement of Attainment
