Essential Employment Laws and Guides

The workshop addresses recent significant changes in Singapore's employment laws, such as the expanded coverage of the Employment Act, increasing retirement and re-employment ages, and the allowance for Rank and File unions to represent higher positions, emphasizing the need for companies to adapt HR policies to comply with these stricter regulations.

Module Content

The workshop will cover the key areas of the following legislations and guidelines:

(1) Fair Employment Practices and Guides
(2) Essentials of Employment Act (EA) including:

Part II - Contract of service
Part III – Payment of Salary
Part IV – Rest days, Hours of Work and other conditions of service
Part VIA – Part-time employees
Part IX – Maternity Protection and Benefits & Childcare Leave for Parent
Part X – Holiday, Annual Leave and Sick Leave Entitlement
Part XII – Registers, Returns and Other Documentary Requirement

(3) Child Development Co-savings Act
(4) Employment (Part Time Employees) Regulations
(5) Retirement and Re-employment Act (RRA) and Tripartite Guidelines
(6) Employment Claims Act – Tripartite Alliance for Dispute Management (TADM) and Employment Claims Tribunal
(7) Employment of Foreign Manpower Act (EFMA)
(8) Work Injury Compensation Act (WICA)

Methodology

Trainer

Mr Toh Hong Seng
Mr Toh is currently one of the Directors in the Industrial and Workplace Relations, Singapore
National Employers Federation.

Mr Toh has over 30 years of practices in Industrial Relations (IR) and Human Resource Management
(HRM). He consults member companies on Industrial Relations and HRM matters, e.g. collective
bargaining, corporate restructuring, termination and dismissal, furlough and retrenchment.

Besides other qualifications, Mr Toh graduated from University of London and obtained a law degree. He
is also ACTA and DACE certified trainer. He conducts HR related courses and WSQ and
Skillsfuture funded courses including PDPA.

Mr Toh assists companies in formulating HR policies and procedures, drafting employee handbook,
designing compensation and benefits and other HR systems and provide mentorship to aspiring Human
Resource Managers.

Target Participants:

HR personnel and management who are responsible for HR.
